What Happens During Each Follow Up Visit?

Physical Therapy Follow Up Visits

Each session starts with a conversation between you and the physical therapist. It is important to start every session with a conversation to understand what your current status is, assess any changes between each session and to establish objectives for the session.

5 Key Components of Performance Physical Therapy

  1. Understanding of your current status and goals

  2. Full-body evaluation and movement assessment

  3. Manual therapy and education to reduce pain levels

  4. Targeted exercises to optimize movement patterns and address root causes of your pain

  5. Progressive exercise program to elevate your body’s physical capacity

Techniques and Treatments Used in Performance Physical Therapy

  • Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques to mobilize muscles and joints, improving function and reducing pain.

  • Neuromuscular Training: Exercises that improve coordination, balance, and proprioception.

  • Strength and Conditioning Exercises: Targeted workouts to build muscle strength and power.

  • Plyometric Training: Exercises that improve explosive movements and neuromuscular efficiency.

  • Flexibility and Mobility Drills: Stretching and mobility work to enhance range of motion and prevent stiffness.

  • Sport-Specific Drills: Practices designed to mimic and improve the movements and demands of a particular sport.

  • Functional Training: Exercises that improve the performance of everyday activities and movements.

The Structure of a Session

The first chunk of the session will be focused on reducing pain, if present, improving soft tissue pliability, and joint mobility with manual therapy and hands on facilitation of specific movements on the table.

Then, we typically move out to the gym area to “re-educate” the body on what movements that we gained through manual therapy and table work. This includes targeted stretches and activation drills to progressively build into strength and conditioning exercises.

As we continue building on each session, your exercise program will start to look more like an athletic training program that often resembles or exceeds the intensity of your desired level of function. This is because one of the primary principles and beliefs that we work with is that your body’s physical capacity must exceed the demand that your lifestyle requires. Simply put, your body has to be stronger and more resilient than anything you ask it to do.
